Kitchen garden ideas
A kitchen garden is productive and pretty: raised cedar beds of vegetables and culinary herbs, espaliered fruit against a wall, edible flowers along the edges, all framed by neat gravel paths. Order is the aesthetic. Straight beds and full rows look abundant; a scattered plot looks neglected.

How to get the look
- 1Build raised beds you can reach across, four feet wide at most, with gravel paths between.
- 2Put the perennials in first: fruit, rhubarb, asparagus and woody herbs, then rotate annuals around them.
- 3Edge the beds with herbs and edible flowers so the working garden reads as a garden.
