Desert landscaping ideas
Desert xeriscape replaces lawn with gravel and lets a few sculptural plants stand alone: agave, barrel cactus, yucca and palo verde in warm earth tones. The look is sparse by design. Space between plants is what makes each one read as a specimen.

How to get the look
- 1Take out the lawn and put down decomposed granite or gravel in one warm colour.
- 2Place boulders first, then plant in the pockets they create, one specimen per pocket.
- 3Use a single small desert tree for shade and let everything else stay low.
