Coastal garden ideas
A coastal garden is planted for wind and salt: ornamental grasses that move, beach roses, blue fescue and hydrangeas among driftwood, weathered timber and pale gravel. Nothing is fussy. The palette is blue, silver and white and the mood is relaxed.

How to get the look
- 1Lead with grasses. They take the wind, hide the bare ground and give the whole yard motion.
- 2Use salt-tolerant shrubs near the front and save tender plants for behind the house.
- 3Keep materials weathered: grey timber, pale gravel, rope and driftwood rather than painted anything.
